Day 1: Friday, June 20
We took a ferry from Split to Hvar Island. Took quite a few wrong turns but we eventually made it to "Dink's Place" hostel where we were warmly greeted by the owner, Dink. After 30 minutes of him telling us about Hvar, he showed us to our room. Clean with a beautiful view! Dink even hooked us up with his friend, Bojan, for the Blue Cave/green cave day excursion for the next day.
After settling in, we walked into town to grab a bite to eat. Then we made the hike to a beautiful beach a few miles away. Dink said it was the most beautiful beach near Hvar Town. It was beautiful even though pebble beaches aren't our first choice! We spent the whole afternoon there.
On our way back, we started planning for our day trip the next day. Naturally, pineapple and Malibu came to mind! So we stopped by the grocery store for those delicious ingredients as well as some chips, (poorly made) salsa, pistachios, 1.5L of water, etc.
After cutting the pineapple and freshening up, we ventured into town in search of sushi! We found the one sushi restaurant in Hvar, and it was SO good. We really needed something different to eat, and sushi was perfect! Every time we ordered something our waiter would respond with "Why not?". We shared 4 yummy sushi rolls, and then we bought Con a burger! haha! After dinner, we walked around the beautifully lit Hvar harbor then called it a night.
Took an hour ferry to Hvar island at 9:15am.
The view from our hostel!
We hiked down to this beautiful beach after lunch and spent the afternoon there.
Sushi for dinner! What a treat! It was so fresh and good!
We love Hvar! It is GORGEOUS! And our hostel is very nice!
Tomorrow we are going on a day excursion to the Blue Cave, Green Cave, and other islands. So excited!
Day 2: Saturday, June 21
We were determined to eat a huge breakfast before our 8 hour day trip of fun in the sun. We succeeded, and it was quite delicious!
We got on the boat at 10:30am where we met the other six people and boat driver who we would be spending the entire day with.
Ante-quiet boat driver who spoke pretty poor English
The three women from Brazil who pretty much spoke no English but we enjoyed their laughter very much!
Sue- a very nice woman in her 50s from England
Samon- a quiet man but fun man from Morocco
Joseph- an adventurous, funny, well-traveled, and well-educated man from Morocco. He could speak 4.5 languages and spoke excellent English! We enjoyed his company most! He was also a fabulous DJ for the day.
We started the day by heading an hour north to Vis island where we saw the Green Cave, Skinniva beach, and another gorgeous swimming hole. Ante would stop the boat for awhile and allow us to swim at each of these places.
After experiencing the beauty of Vis island, we headed over to Bisevo island to see the Blue Cave. We also saw a few dolphins along the way! When we got to Bisevo, we had to pay an extra $13 total to see the Blue Cave. They put us in a small boat and took us to the cave where we all had to duck our heads to get through the opening. When we entered, it was pitch black. Really? We paid $13 for a black cave! But then the boat driver slowly guided us through the cave and when we turned the corner, this bright blue light appeared illuminating the water! Totally worth $13! So beautiful! The water was crystal clear. It was a very neat experience!
After the Blue Cave, we had a long boat ride back toward Hvar. We stopped at a beach (a SAND beach!) on the Pakleeni islands for 3 hours to swim and sunbathe. Con and I had such a wonderful time there! We hung out, ate our snacks, swam, and enjoyed the nice sand under our feet. He even let me sing all of "Goodbye Earl" to him while we were hanging in the water! I actually think he enjoyed it or at least he was impressed that I knew all the words haha!
Our lovely day of fun in the sun ended around 6:30p.m. We said goodbye to the gang and headed back toward the hostel to freshen up for dinner. Before dinner, we decided to hike up to the fortress to see the beautiful views.
After looking a many menus, we decided to go to one of the top rated restaurants called Dalmatino. It certainly lived up to its high ranking!
There was an hour wait, so we grabbed one sushi roll to hold us over.
We sat down and ordered wine and water. When the waiter brought us our drinks, he also brought us the carob fruit and two half shots of brandy on the house. After we finished the shots, they brought out homemade bread with olive oil on the house. So obviously, we're loving this place already! We ordered "Garrada" white fish with delicious potatoes to share as an appetizer. Then we ordered our meals: Black Gnocchi with shrimp in a creamy wine sauce and Filet Mignon for Con. When we asked for the check, our waiter brought us dessert wine on the house! This whole meal with a liter of wine cost us under $100!
We were absolutely exhausted by the time with got back to the hostel around midnight. Today was a very very good day!
Preview for the next day...we go to Brac island and we are absolutely exhausted.
